Change, Innovate and Lead for a Sustainable Future

The aim of this multi-disciplinary conference is to enable participants sharing their expertise and knowledge around the field of change management, innovation and knowledge management and the role of leadership in engaging organisations and preparing them for a sustainable future.

The powerful dynamism of modern organisations has transformed nature and society. Needless to say those organisations are the fundamental cells for modern economic life and their phenomenal success in transforming the earth’s resources into wealth has shaped the physical and social world in which we live. But does the current model contribute to the health of the planet, the survival of humans and other species, the development of human society, the creation of work that brings dignity and self-fulfilment to those undertaking it or does it need to be innovated and modified to meet all those requirements? We are living in a turbulent world that has been hit with several economic disasters leading to instabilities spreading as a wave among several continents of this world.

Research indicates that capability enhancement includes developing the organisation’s capacity for reshaping itself, its ability to identify future strategic opportunities and to initiate action which effectively repositions particular products and services, repositions the organisation as a whole to take advantage of changing markets or proactively redefines the industry or a significant segment of it. Moreover, there is a connection between creating capacity for organisations and individual change as a means of raising the level of organisational innovation. Consistent with this emphasis on innovation is strong support for a policy of workplace diversity, participation in decision making, gender equity and work-life balance. This is obvious through organisational architecture which reflects the emphasis on adaptability, flexibility, innovation and speed of response to the latest internal and external environment we are exposed to world wide.

One critical challenge for a future sustainable organisation is to be able to attract and retain highly talented people. Leadership plays a substantial role through participation and collaboration by bringing the whole organisation together to help unleash powerful forces for sustainable change through an incremental transformational change process.

Attending this conference is an opportunity for academics, government officials, policy makers to get together and share their knowledge as a first step toward a transformational plan that they can tailor to suit their unique circumstances for a sustainable future.

Similar to previous conferences organised by WASD, this multidisciplinary conference is expected to attract large number of global experts and scholars in addition to WASD members all over the world.
